Your health. Our priority.

Good diabetes care is mostly about what gets checked between the crises.

  • A yearly schedule for eyes, kidneys and feet, because these are lost silently and are preventable
  • Dietary advice from a clinical dietitian in terms of rice, roti and real meals
  • Insulin started with proper teaching, so the first injection happens here and not at home alone
  • Cardiac risk assessed alongside sugar, since heart disease is what diabetes most often causes

Questions, answered.

Common questions about diabetology care at Humayun Hospital.

How often should I have an HbA1c?

Every three months while treatment is being adjusted, and every six months once you are stable. It reflects the last two to three months, so testing more often tells you very little.

Does starting insulin mean my diabetes is severe?

No. It means tablets alone are no longer enough, which happens to most people with type 2 diabetes eventually. Starting at the right time protects your eyes and kidneys.

Can I eat rice?

Yes. Quantity, what you eat alongside it and how often matter more than removing it. Our dietitian will work with the meals your household actually cooks.

My sugar is controlled. Do I still need yearly checks?

Yes. Eyes, kidneys and nerves are damaged silently and long before you feel anything. The annual checks are what catch that while it is still reversible.
