A 24×7 emergency department with critical care on the same campus.
Your health. Our priority.
An emergency department is judged on how quickly the sickest patient is identified and how little they have to be moved afterwards.
- Triage on arrival, so a heart attack or a stroke is picked out of the queue immediately
- Imaging beside the resuscitation area rather than in another department
- Emergency theatre and intensive care in the same building, so critical patients are not transferred
- Specialist teams called down rather than the patient sent up

Questions, answered.
Common questions about emergency medicine care at Humayun Hospital.
When should I come to emergency rather than book an appointment?
Chest pain, breathing difficulty, sudden weakness or slurred speech, severe bleeding, a serious injury, a seizure, or a child who is drowsy and will not drink. When in doubt, come.
Why was someone seen before me?
Patients are seen by how urgent their condition is, not by arrival order. Somebody taken ahead of you is more unwell, and if your condition changes while waiting, tell the nurse immediately.
Should I drive or call an ambulance?
Call 108 for chest pain, stroke symptoms, serious injury or breathing difficulty. Treatment starts in the ambulance and it brings you into the resuscitation area rather than the front door.
Can a relative stay with me?
Usually one person can stay, and always with a child. During resuscitation the team may need space, and staff will explain what is happening as soon as they can.
