Your health. Our priority.
Keyhole surgery is not automatically better for every patient. It is better when the case suits it and the team does enough of them.
- A team that operates laparoscopically as routine rather than occasionally
- Honest assessment of when open surgery is the safer choice, and why
- Day-care pathways for the common procedures, so a gallbladder does not mean a week off
- The same surgeon through consultation, operation and follow-up

Questions, answered.
Common questions about laparoscopic surgery care at Humayun Hospital.
Is keyhole surgery safer than open surgery?
For suitable cases it means less pain, less wound infection and a faster recovery. It is not safer in every situation, and severe inflammation or extensive scarring sometimes makes open surgery the better choice.
How big are the scars?
Usually three or four incisions of about half to one centimetre. They fade considerably over a year and most become difficult to see.
When can I return to work?
Desk work is usually about a week after a routine keyhole operation. Physical work and heavy lifting need three to four weeks. Your surgeon will be specific to your job.
Can it be converted to open surgery midway?
Yes, and occasionally it is. That is a safety decision, not a complication, and it is discussed with you as part of consent before the operation.
