Recovery programmes after surgery, injury or stroke.

Your health. Our priority.

The exercises that work are the ones people keep doing, which is a matter of design as much as effort.

  • Programmes built around what you can realistically do at home, not an ideal schedule
  • Rehabilitation starting on the ward after surgery rather than weeks later at an outpatient visit
  • Progress measured rather than assumed, so the programme changes when it should
  • Working directly with the surgical and neurology teams treating you

Questions, answered.

Common questions about physiotherapy & rehabilitation care at Humayun Hospital.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the condition. A frozen shoulder may need several weeks, a knee replacement six to twelve weeks, a stroke considerably longer. You will be given an expected course at the first assessment.

Will physiotherapy hurt?

It should be uncomfortable at times but not sharply painful. Some soreness after a session is normal. Pain that lasts into the next day means the programme needs adjusting, so tell your physiotherapist.

Can I just do exercises from the internet?

Generic exercises may help but they are not matched to your diagnosis or stage of recovery, and the wrong exercise at the wrong time can set you back. An assessment first is worth it.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

For most musculoskeletal problems you can be assessed directly. Post-surgical and neurological rehabilitation is normally arranged by the treating team.
