Your health. Our priority.
Reconstructive surgery is planned backwards from the result, which is why the first consultation takes longer than people expect.
- Function considered before appearance, because a hand that looks right and does not work is a failed operation
- Staged reconstruction planned from the outset rather than decided operation by operation
- Working with orthopaedics and general surgery where injury crosses departments

Questions, answered.
Common questions about plastic & reconstructive surgery care at Humayun Hospital.
Is plastic surgery the same as cosmetic surgery?
No. Most plastic surgery is reconstructive, restoring function and form after injury, burns, infection or a congenital difference. Cosmetic surgery is one part of a much larger speciality.
Will there be a scar?
Any incision leaves a scar. What surgery controls is where it sits, how it is closed and how it is managed afterwards. Scars continue to improve for a year or more.
When should a cleft lip be repaired?
Lip repair is usually around three to six months and palate repair around nine to twelve months, timed to feeding and speech development. Your surgeon will set a plan for your child.
My wound will not heal. Can it be closed surgically?
Often yes, but the reason it is not healing must be addressed first, whether that is blood supply, infection, pressure or diabetes. Closing a wound without fixing the cause fails.
