Your health. Our priority.

In serious injury the outcome is set in the first hour, and mostly by how little time is spent moving between departments.

  • Imaging beside the resuscitation area, so a scan does not mean a journey
  • Orthopaedic, general and anaesthetic teams called simultaneously rather than in sequence
  • An emergency theatre kept available rather than found
  • Intensive care in the same building, so the sickest patients are not transferred

Orthopaedic and general surgical teams operating together where injuries cross both
Rehabilitation planned from the first week, not after discharge

Questions, answered.

Common questions about trauma surgery care at Humayun Hospital.

Should I bring an injured person here or call an ambulance?

Call 108. Serious injury needs someone trained at the scene, and an ambulance arrives into the resuscitation area rather than the front door.

Why was surgery done in stages?

In major trauma the first operation stabilises what is life-threatening. Reconstruction follows once the patient is stable enough to tolerate a longer procedure. Doing everything at once is often more dangerous.

How long is recovery from a major fracture?

Bone healing usually takes around three months, but regaining function takes longer and depends on the physiotherapy. Your surgeon will give a timeline specific to the injury.

Do you treat head injuries?

We assess and observe head injuries and arrange imaging immediately. Injuries needing neurosurgery are stabilised here and referred to a neurosurgical unit.
