Urology
Treatment for urinary tract, kidney stone and men's health conditions.
Treatment for urinary tract, kidney stone and men's health conditions.
Your health. Our priority.
Urology has moved almost entirely to endoscopic and keyhole techniques, and the difference in recovery is the reason to care where you have it done.
- Stones treated by laser and endoscopy rather than open surgery in almost every case
- Prostate symptoms assessed properly, so surgery is offered when medication has genuinely stopped working
- Blood in the urine always investigated, never assumed to be an infection
- Consultations given the privacy the subject needs

Questions, answered.
Common questions about urology care at Humayun Hospital.
Will my kidney stone pass on its own?
Small stones often do, with fluids and medication. Larger stones, or ones causing obstruction, infection or unrelenting pain, need treatment. A scan decides which category yours is in.
Does an enlarged prostate mean cancer?
No. Prostate enlargement is extremely common with age and is usually benign. It is assessed with an examination and a PSA test, and further tests only if those raise a question.
I have blood in my urine but no pain. Should I wait?
No. Painless blood in the urine needs investigation even if it happens once and then stops. Most causes are not serious, but this is the symptom that should never be watched.
Is stone surgery open surgery?
Very rarely now. Most stones are treated through the urinary tract with a scope and laser, or through a small tract in the back for large stones. Neither involves a large incision.
